Parents Plus at the NCB Parenting Programmes Showcase for Northern Ireland

This March, Parents Plus was delighted to be a contributor at the National Children’s Bureau’s Parenting Programmes Showcase for Northern Ireland. It was an illuminating morning hearing from some of the most prominent organisations delivering parenting programmes and training in Northern Ireland, as well as from representatives of the Public Health Agency and the Health and Social Care Trusts.

Our co-founder and Clinical Director, Prof John Sharry, presented on behalf of Parents Plus, giving an overview of the history of the charity, our train-the-trainer model and the eight Parents Plus programmes that have been developed and rolled out to support parents and families.

We also heard from practitioners Jessica Leyburn and Emma McDermott, who have a presentation about their experience delivering the Parents Plus Special Needs programme. Jessica is a Parenting Support Worker with the Southern HSC Trust Parenting Partnership and Emma is a Senior Practitioner in Early Intervention with the Intellectual Disability Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. Their presentation gave a great insight into the challenges faced and lessons learned delivering the programme, as well as the incredibly positive response they received from parents.
