The recent online launch of the Second Edition of the Parents Plus ADHD Children’s Programme welcomed attendees ranging from parents and educators to mental health professionals and community colleagues, some new to the Parents Plus suite of programmes and others well-acquainted. The event aimed to share updates in the second edition, explain differences with the ADHD parent book, and inform attendees about the Parents Plus Facilitators training ethos and post-training support.

John Sharry opened the launch with a thoughtful description on the rationale for updating the ADHD Children’s Programme, highlighting the main changes in the facilitator manual.

Lisa Whitlock emphasised a key change in the second edition: the neurodiversity-affirming tone and approach. This approach focuses on the connection between parent and child, recognising ADHD as a natural variation of the human brain. The strengths-based perspective fosters an inclusive environment, providing safety and support for all parents.

Fred Ehresmann spoke passionately about the facilitator training opportunities with Parents Plus. He explained how the training sessions are structured to support strong, solution-focused facilitation skills that empower parents to find solutions to their individual challenges.

In breakout rooms, conversation and connection between agencies took place, sharing practices of delivering the Parents Plus programmes. The launch emphasised the Parents Plus newest programme’s commitment to neurodiversity affirming practices, parent self-care, and comprehensive training opportunities.
